Luma Design System

Whenever you have different people working on a project, it is always a good idea to have a main source of information where all design decisions come from. That is why our team designed the Luma Design System to simplify everyone’s workload and maintain uniformity thoughout all of our applications.

My role in the project was to design all of the components in the design system. I used Adobe XD to design the components. After the design was approved, developers created the code and maintained it in Storybook. Our applications are built using Vue. The Luma Design System is based on the Vuetify UI Component Library. Vuetify has so many different variations that we needed to specify to our team which of all the alternatives we were going to use.

  • Luma Colors

Colors were carefully chosen keeping in mind all the different cases where color would need to be used. Recommendations were added in Storybook to make sure color combinations used were always accessible.

  • Different typography styles were chosen to add variety and needed separation between sections of text. A visual example of how the typography styles should be used is always helpful.

  • Buttons are an integral part of every application and every use case and state needs to be considered. I always keep accessibility in mind when selecting colors and sizes of each button style.

  • Other Components

Every application is unique and there are always special components that need to be designed for specific cases.

In addition to maintaining our design styles, we also had to keep in mind regulations dictated by the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health & Human Services.

I am currently available for work and looking forward to hearing from you.
