I won!
I still can’t believe it and have been in a daze since it happened, but I won one of the Threads of Oak Spring commissions. If you don’t know what that is, read my last post. Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill from Whole Circle Studio was the other quilter selected. We are having fun communicating, forecasting challenges we will have, and planning next steps.
Initial sketch
This was the quick sketch I made the night after getting back from Oak Spring. The final design is pretty close.
What’s Next?
At the moment I am finishing projects I’m in the middle of so I can dedicate my time to this project. I have started drafting patterns for this quilt. In the past, a building took me about a month to make depending on the size and complexity. This quilt has 3 (!) plus other elements, so it will take me a while to put it all together.
Bunny collected fabric. All kinds of fabrics. She upholstered a chair so she kept a bolt of the fabric just in case. That fabric in her new curtains could be used in some pillows later, so she kept it. Givenchy made her a dress; let's keep the scraps… Part of the commission request is that the quilts use at least 50% of their fabrics.
Next month, we will go together and go through all the scraps and decide what we should bring home. Hopefully there won't be fights over who takes what scrap. Quilters can get pretty possessive about fabric.
In the meantime, aside from making patterns, I have to make a list of the fabrics I need, which is going to be a challenge. You see, in my architecture quilts, I depend a lot on the print of the fabrics to represent the texture of the different building materials.
Details of some of my architecture quilts
Therefore, I am going to have to make a list of all the different textures I need and hope I can find an appropriate print and keep it all straight for when I get home to work on the quilt. Wish me luck!
