Quilt Mystery Tour!

Every year the Modern Quilt Guild challenges their guilds to make a group quilt with a specific color scheme. In 2025, I designed the DCMQG Community Quilt based on the area landmarks and symbols. I had so much fun with it that I thought, "Why not do it for other places?" That is how this crazy Quilt Mystery Tour got started. Do you want to hop on board?

*FPP letters were made from a pattern by Carolyn Friedlander

Here are the travel plans

  • Every tour will be based on a particular location.

  • New month = New Block Every month there will be a new stop. A new block will be revealed starting in October.

  • There is a color scheme, but you can use any color scheme you prefer.

  • The pattern will be distributed digitally so that you can print it at home.

  • Every month there will be an optional virtual meeting where we can all get together, do show and tell, ask questions, and maybe get clues about our next stop (next month’s block).

  • The blocks will use all kinds of piecing or appliqué techniques, but I’ll warn you, there will be a lot of foundation paper piecing. You should know the basics of FPP.

  • There may be a few fun facts about each block to get to know our stops better.

  • You will have 12 blocks at the end of the year with directions on how to put together a 45” x 60” quilt.

  • Didn’t board on time? No worries. We are not going to leave you stranded. You can board at any of our stops, get the prior blocks, and catch up.

The best part

You are going to have a say in the design of the quilt!

When we travel, we like to hear from the locals what are the best spots. None of the blocks are designed yet. Get on the train early and tell us where to go. During the trip, I’ll be taking your suggestions, photos, and stories. I want to hear what you love about your hometown.

Where are we going on our maiden voyage?

What will it look like? 🤷‍♀️

Our first stop is Camden Yards! Yes, I cheated a little because this block was part of the DCMQG Community Quilt. Do a little FPP, a little embroidery, a little appliqué, and some curved piecing. This block has it all.
