2025 in Review
I always like to sit down at the end of the year and see what I accomplished this year and where I am going next. This has been a hard year. I have been unemployed half of the year so I didn’t feel very accomplished but as I look at what I have done and what’s coming, I feel a lot better.
All the quilts I made this year
In terms of art style consistency, I was all over the place. But I think overall, I made some good work. I just need to FOCUS. Part of the problem was that there were opportunities I wanted to participate in that were not exactly part of my work style so I made something unrelated. Also at the end of the year I tried to make some income at Holiday Markets and I made somethings that were quick to make so I could sell them at lower prices. I didn’t spent any time in my serious work. I now realize it wasn’t worth it. You live, you learn.
My year by the numbers
It is always interesting to see places I have been and things done thru the year. I do it by looking at my calendar and count the things that are interesting. Trying to figure out a better way of keeping track of things.
Keeping it real…
Here is my exhibition record. I applied to 21 exhibits and got accepted in 8 so lots of rejections but that is the artist life. This year I wanted to look at the difference between applying to general art exhibits compared to quilt exhibits. I had a feeling that I do better with art vs. quilt exhibits and I was correct. In my opinion it is because in art exhibits, quilts are unexpected and not the same painting or print or drawing they get multiple entries off. The quilt gets more attention. In quilt exhibits, everything is a quilt so they look more at the details and craftsmanship (the quilt police…).
What’s coming…
Next year is already looking like it is going to be a very exciting year!
A quilt I designed is going to be shown at QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC this February.
My quilt is going to be in a book cover! More on that later.
I was accepted as one of the quilters that is going to compete in the Threads of Oak Springs Quilter's Competition
I am going to be part of The Phillips Collection 2026 Juried Invitational Exhibition
OMG! It is amazing just to list the milestones that are going to happen next year. I can’t wait! 2026 here I come!
