My process … looking back

Today I was looking back at some old pictures of my work and wanted to show you a little look behind the scenes of the creation of my quilt Drowning Liberty. It was the start of my series Not What I Taught You and a different way of working for me. Most of my quilts before this one where done with a sewing technique called piecing which is sewing pieces of fabric together and you get a lot of straight lines like in my architecture quilts. This new body of work has a lot of expressive curves which are easier to sew with applique which refers to the technique of laying pieces of fabric on top of each other.
